A tip of the FTA hat to Lois Hillard

and her talented fingers for repairing the tear in the old canopy fabric.  Thanks to both Stan and Lois for taking the initiative and getting the job done.  :)

Mulch put down in the set up area...

...but more is needed.  Anyone with a pick up truck willing to pick up some free mulch up at the I-66 Transfer station and haul it to our set up area is welcome to do so.  Mulch is especially needed under the two picnic tables nearest the judges gazebo.

New cores for the practice targets

With the help of Evan and Stan we've put new cores in the older practice targets on the field and in the practice shed.

     New Set Up Table

Making use of two of the stumps left from clearing dead trees in the set up area, we've got a new set up table.  This is for cases only.  Do not try to sit or stand on this new table.  It is for set up only.

Congratulations Senior FTA members

All the Fairfax Target Archers who traveled to the Va Senior Games competition May 10 in Virginia Beach Medaled All of our archers have qualified for the 2009 National Senior Games competition in San Francisco, Ca.  Congratulations to Fran DeCarlo, June Goodenough, Stan Hillard, Frank Kelley, Evan Mater, Mary and Jerry Wenzel.  This was Fran DeCarlo's first outdoor competition.  She had travel from Chicago just for this event, but it was worth it.

 Practice shed left unlocked

Someone with the practice shed lock combination has, over the past weeks, left the shed unlocked.  Giving the combination out to anyone is a violation of the trust we all, as FTA members, have for each other and our equipment.  Loss of anything in that shed could be an expensive theft.  More importantly it could result in a loss of the trust we have built with IWLA over the past years.

If you are aware of how this may have happened, please drop me an email.  This isn't a 'witch hunt' and there will be no punitive action, but until this is resolved, the shed will remain locked.

Trees taken down at IWLA

This past Sunday several trees which had posed a threat to users of the outdoor field at IWLA were taken down.  There is some debris in the waiting area, but the shooting line and field are fine for anyone wanting to practice.  The picnic tables were moved to accommodate the tree removal which is ongoing.  They will be put back as soon as the job is done.  A big tip of the hat to Evan Mater who's experience and effort got the job done.  Thanks from all of us, Evan.

Congratulations to all the FTA members

and our friends in the local archery community who participated in the US Archery Indoor National Championship at James Madison University.  With this competition, we see the end of the 2008 indoor season.  We should be outdoors in the next few weeks.    FK  :)

Congratulations to all the medalists at the Virginia State Indoor Target Championship

We had a record 106 shooters for the 2008 Va State Indoor Championship.  Records were broken, and some of the top US Archery Team members were there.  Results are up in 'Results'.           FK  :)

 What's an indoor Star Fita?

There are two terms here: Star and Fita

FITA - The international federation (in French) governing archery.

-Also-

FITA - a format for an archery competition.  For our indoor season, it is a standardized 60 arrows shot at 18 meters in ends of 3 arrows.  Two minutes are allowed for each end.

STAR-a competition which is registered with the International Federation  through USA Archery.  It must have a qualified judge and be shot under the FITA rules.

If a competition is a STAR FITA and a national record setting score is shot, it can be recognized by USA Archery as a national record.  If an international record is set, it will be recognized by the International Federation (FITA) as an international record.
